Director dealings: Spire NXD Gildersleeve trousers shares

Spire Healthcare director John Gildersleeve and his wife has bought close to £0.5m of shares in the private healthcare provider, as they trade close to a yearly highs amid bid rumours.

Senior independent director Gildersleeve grabbed 63,700 shares at an average price of 389.8075p, while spouse Anna bought 57,300 at the same price.

Following the purchases, the Gildersleeves have a beneficial interest in 125,761 ordinary shares of the FTSE 250 company.

Shares were given a further shot in the arm on Thursday, having the Friday before been boosted by a report that peer Mediclinic was preparing a bid for the remainder of the company.

Website Betaville cited people familiar with the matter as saying that the South African group was working with Morgan Stanley and could be "weeks away" from submitting a formal approach for Spire, having in June bought a 29.9% stake in Spire from private equity group Cinven for 360p a share.

The new offer was rumoured to be at a 30% premium to Spire Healthcare’s current share price.
