Directors dealings: Clarkson chairman picks up shares in battered shipbroker

Clarkson´s chairman, James Hughes-Hallett, picked up a batch of shares of the battered shipbroker a day after it issued a profit warning.

On 4 July, Clarkson said profits in 2016 would be "materially lower" than in full-year 2015 as a result of lower freight rates, quiet capital markets and weak investor confidence.

In its latest trading update, the company referenced the sharp drop seen in the Baltic Dry Index during the first quarter, when it tested its all-time lows.

Hughes-Hallett bought 1,500 shares at an individual price of 1,800p for a total consideration of £27,000.

That same day and the next Peter Backhouse, a non-executive director, followed suit, picking up 2,500 shares for £42,778.

Shares in Clarkson closed 6.57% weaker on Wednesday at 1,677p, in the process setting a new 52-week low, giving the company a market value of £507m.
