Directors dealings: Shire chief sells part of performance share award

Shire chief Flemming Ornskov sold 3,111 out of a total of 10,942 American Depositary Receipts which vested on 2 May, the company said in a statement.

The ADS are each equivalent to three ordinary shares in the company and granted to Ornskov as part of a performance share award.

Ornskov sold the shares to satisfy personal tax liabilities.

On 29 April, the drug company posted a 17% rise in revenues of $1.71bn, which was 1% ahead of analysts´ forecasts while its operating profits beat the consensus estimate by 6%.

In a research note published on 3 May, analysts at Credit Suisse singled out the company as their 'top pick' in the European pharmaceutical space.

"Shire standalone offers high earnings growth relative to peers at an attractive valuation. We believe that concerns over M&A risk are overdone. We expect continued growth in Vyvanse from the roll-out of binge eating disorder and the strong launch potential of lifitegrast in 2H16/2017," the analysts said.

Previously, on 15 February, seven of the company´s board shelled out large sums to add to their holdings in the stock.

On that ocassion, Ornksov forked out over $200,000 on 1,300 ADS at $154.12, while chair Susan Kilsby paid almost $254,000 on 1,600 ADS at $158.41 apiece.

Stock in Shire finished the session lower by 0.73% at 4,230p, well off their 52-week high of 5,730p, giving the firm a market capitalisation of £25,094.73m.
