New Barclays chief backs bank to the tune of GBP6.5m
Updated : 16:35
A month before starting his new job, Jes Staley is already stumping up his own cash to back his new employer Barclays.
The chief executive-designate purchased 2.79m shares at a total cost of £6.5m.
The former JP Morgan investment banking head was appointed to lead the company late in October and will take his seat on 1 December.
On top of the shares he’s bought, Staley will also receive millions of pounds worth of shares as part of his salary package, as well £1.15m of shares per year as part of his base salary, as well as a share award worth £1.93m to compensate him for an unvested share award granted to him by his previous employer.
Chairman John McFarlane at the time of the appointment said he and Staley agreed on the way to take the company forward, highlighting the importance of cultural reform and accelerating the delivery of improved shareholder returns.
