Week ahead: BoE in focus

The Bank of England's policy meeting on Thursday will focus markets' attention.

The Old Lady on Threadneedle Street is now expected to lower Bank Rate by 25 basis points on Thursday in a bid to boost economic growth in the aftermath of the referendum vote.

Minutes of UK rate-setters' deliberations when they met on Wednesday will also be closely scrutinised with a view to gaining a better understanding of their thinking.

Meanwhile, and in the States, investors will be expectant ahead of a flood of economic data set for release at the end of the week, on Friday, with multiple speeches from the US central bank's top officials also scheduled for throughout the week.

The flow of Chinese economic data is also set to be quite intense, with figures on inflation, credit and lending and trade all set for release.
