Week ahead: Election polls, US jobs data in focus

In all likelihood, the market spotlight next week will be on the poll results in the run-up to the 8 June elections which may stoke heavy volatility in foreign exchange markets.
Against that backdrop, Friday will see the release of the monthly non-farm payroll figures in the States, which many believe will weigh heavily in US rate-setters' decision making process when they next meet to decide on rates on 13 and 14 June.
The next most important economic report will be Caixin's Chinese manufacturing purchasing managers' index for May, with markets keen to see if weakness in the survey findings for April is sustained.
Caixin is scheduled to publish its PMI overnight on Thursday.
Equivalent surverys from Markit on US and UK factory sector activity are also due on Thursday.
Meanwhile, investors in the euro area will be concentrating on Wednesday's 'flash' reading on euro area consumer prices in May from Eurostat, alongside figures on unemployment in April.
Readings on euro area-wide consumer and industrial confidence in May, from the European Commission, will also make for an interesting read on Monday.
