Week ahead: Euro area CPI, US Q1 GDP in the spotlight
Financial markets' focus over the coming week will be on a raft of inflation readings from either side of the Pond.
Data scheduled for release on Friday is expected to show that consumer prices in the euro area continued to accelerate in April.
However, while consensus is for an increase in the annual rate of CPI from 7.4% to 7.5%, economists at Barclays Research anticipate a slight slowdown to 7.2%.
Figures due out on the same day in the US meanwhile are expected to show inflationary pressures continuing to build.
Among the reports that will be published in the States are the employment cost index for the first quarter, the price deflator for personal consumption expenditures in March and gauges for inflation expectations among consumers referencing the month of April.
Readings for first quarter gross domestic product in the US and euro area are also scheduled, on Thursday and Friday, respectively.
Against that backdrop, investors will be waiting to see if UN chief, Antonio Guterres, manages to restart the stalled peace talks between Russia and Ukraine.
He is due to travel to Ankara on Monday and Moscow on Tuesday to meet with the leaders of the two countries.
Turkey is acting as mediator in the conflict.
The coming week will be especially heavy as regards corporate results with all four of the UK's largest lenders are set to report earnings.
Across the Atlantic, approximately 28% of S&P 500 companies are due to report to their shareholders as are all the main technology groups.
Alphabet and Microsoft will do so on Tuesday, followed by Meta Platforms on Wednesday, Apple on Thursday and Amazon on Friday.
