Week ahead: Raft of consumer price data due out from across the globe

A raft of consumer price data due out from across the globe over the coming week may be the focal point for markets, given they are one of the key drivers behind movements in exchange rates.

First out will be the latest UK consumer price figures for the month of March, on Tuesday. As in the US, deflationary pressures appear to be abating, helping to buttress the pound.

However, recent weak economic data in Britain and the risks surrounding the 23 June referendum on continued membership of the European Union may alter the picture.

In that regard, the Monetary Policy Committee's rate-setting meeting on Thursday, and the minutes that come alongside it, may help to guide investors as regards the outlook for one of the other key drivers of the economy - and FX markets too - interest rates.

Acting as a backdrop, investors will be peppered throughout the week with a steady stream of first-tier economic indicators out of the People's Republic of China.

Given recent moves in FX markets, upcoming data on Japanese machinery orders and industrial production may also be in focus.

Finally, on Thursday, 12 April, the International Monetary Fund and World Bank Group will kick-off their Spring meetings, with updated economic forecasts from the former scheduled for released.
