Week ahead: UK data in focus

From Tuesday onwards, traders will be watching out for the release of a raft of top-tier indicators related to the British economy, including data on consumer prices, the labour market, retail sales and public finances starting.

Worth noting, Bank of England chief economist Andy Haldane is scheduled to deliver a speech on Wednesday, after the close of markets.

On the other side of the channel the focus will be on the European Central Bank's policy meeting on Thursday.

Markets will likely be very sensitive to any hints against a further extension of quantitative easing past the current expected end date for the programme of March 2017, given recent speculation in that regard.

Two days before, on Tuesday, the ECB will publish its bank lending survey for the third quarter.

Stateside the economic calendar will be front-end loaded, with industrial production figures for the month of September set for release on Monday, followed by the latest consumer price data in the following session.

Rate setters in Canada are scheduled to decide on rates on Wednesday, preceded by the minutes of the Reserve Bank of Australia's last policy meeting on Tuesday.
