Week ahead: UK jobs report, US debt ceiling talks in focus
The market spotlight over the coming would shift back towards the UK and its jobs market.
Unemployment was seen steady at 3.8% over the three months to March, although April's claimant count was seen dipping by 10,800.
Most important of all perhaps, average earnings growth excluding bonuses was seen edging up from 6.6% over the quarter ending in February to 6.8%, as Britons managed to get salary increases to offset inflation.
Stateside meanwhile, markets would be keeping close tabs on the state of negotiations on Capitol Hill regarding a possible increase in the government's debt ceiling.
Investors' focus would also be on readings for retail sales and industrial production in April, both of which were due out on Tuesday.
The Philly Fed's regional factory index and the latest jobless claims figures, both on Thursday, would likely draw attention too.
Across the Channel, on Tuesday, Eurostat would publish a preliminary reading for first quarter euro area gross domestic product growth.
In parallel, the ZEW institute would release its closely followed economic sentiment index for Germany referencing the month of May.
In Asia, Tuesday would bring with it a barrage of activity indicators for the People's Republic of China covering the month of April.
