Week ahead: Ukraine war, US non-farm payrolls in the spotlight
Financial markets' focus over the coming holiday-shortened week will continue to be on the war in Ukraine.
On Monday, European Union heads of state or government will meet to discuss the most recent development with a possible embargo on Russian oil likely to front and centre, alongside other measures to support Kyiv, including humanitarian, financial, material and political ones.
Against that backdrop, on Friday the US Department of Labor will release non-farm payrolls figures for May.
The consensus is for a slowdown in the pace of hiring in the States from April's 428,000 clip to 329,000.
Factory sector purchasing managers' surveys are also due out from across the globe, including in China on Tuesday and Wednesday, followed by those in the euro area, UK and US on Wednesday.
Similar survey results, but for services, are due in the US and euro area on Friday.
Worth noting, ECB boss, Christine Lagarde, is due to speak on a high-level panel at noon on Wednesday.
The day before, a preliminary reading for euro area consumer prices is expected to reveal a further rise in the annual rate of CPI from 7.4% for April to 7.7% in May - which would mark a fresh record high.
US financial markets will remain closed on 30 May in observance of Memorial Day and those in the UK on 2-3 June for the Spring bank holiday and the Platinum Jubilee.
