Week ahead: US elections, Bank of England in focus
Everything over the coming week will pale in significance to the outcome of the US presidential elections.
But it's not only the outcome of the vote that matters, investors will also be watching to see whether the Republican party retains control of the Senate, which is also potentially up for grabs.
Some pundits argue that if Republicans manage to stay in control of the upper chamber of Congress they will be able to stymie policy initiatives from the Democrats, assuming that Joe Biden is voted into the White House.
Historically however, it is not uncommon for Americans to impose their own 'checks and balances' in the division of powers between the executive and legislative arms of government.
Of critical importance too will be whether the result is so narrow as to lead to a high probability of it being contested and if that could result in a long and drawn out process.
Against that backdrop, on Thursday rate-setters at the Bank of England and US Federal Reserve will meet to decide on monetary policy.
For its part, the Monetary Policy Committee is expected to ramp-up Bank's asset purchase facility from £745bn to £845bn.
Monthly US non-farm payroll data are also due out at the end of the week, but on Friday.
Last, but by no means least, Monday will bring with it the key Caixin China manufacturing sector Purchasing Managers' Index for November. It will be followed on 7 November by Chinese foreign trade data referencing that same month.
