Week ahead: US non-farm payrolls, BoE in the spotlight

All eyes over the coming week will be on the US non-farm payrolls report for July due out on Friday.

Economists at Barclays Research anticipate that it will reveal a slowdown in the pace of hiring from 372,000 to 250,000, "reflecting the historical tendency of employment to lag from developments in spending data."

Investors will also be keeping a close eye on factory and services sector Purchasing Managers Indices from the Institute for Supply Management on Monday and Wednesday.

Consensus is for both to come in at levels consistent with stronger levels activity than signalled by rival PMIs from S&P Global.

Againsgt that backdrop, on Thursday, rate-setters at the Bank of England are expected to announce a 50 basis point interest rate hike in Bank Rate to 1.75%.

Seven of the Monetary Policy Committee's members are expected to have supported such a move with two seen voting for a smaller 25bp rate rise.

Also on Thursday, at 2000 BST, Sky will re-transmit the Conservative party's leadership debate on TV.

Across the Channel, S&P Global will release final readings for its euro area factory and services sector PMIs for the month of July, on Monday and Wednesday, respectively.

Also due out are German retail sales and factory sales figures for June, on Monday and Thursday, and euro area producer price data on Wednesday.

Factory sector PMIs will also be in focus in China, at the start of the week, followed by central bank policy decisiones in Australia, come Wednesday, and India, on Friday.
