Week ahead: US non-farm payrolls, Brexit in focus

Markets were expected to re-focus on the prospects for the US economy in the coming week, with traders likely highly anxious of the next monthly US non-farm payrolls report, on Friday.

The US labour market generated just 38,000 jobs in May, falling fall short of economists´ forecasts and leading to large downwards revisions to projections for the pace of Fed policy tightening in 2016 and 2017.

Since the release of May´s data, and in the aftermath of Brexit, some economists have lowered their forecasts even further.

Ahead of those numbers, the US central bank would was set to publish the minutes of its last policy meeting; while always useful, those would now likely be somewhat dated following recent events.

The Reserve Bank of Australia was set to decide on rates on Tuesday, followed close behing by Sweden´s Riksbank the next day.

Elsewhere, the latest service sector purchasing managers´ indices in the euro area and China would be closely watched for on Tuesday.

Equivalent data for the UK were set to be published on the same day, followed by figures on the performance of British industrial production in May.

US markets will be closed on Monday in observance of the 4 July national holiday.

Naturally, markets would also be scrutinising the newsflow regarding the political situation at home and on-going diplomatic contacts with officials in Brussels, or larck thereof.
