Week ahead: US PCE prices, global PMIs in focus
The coming week was to be back-end loaded with a reading on the US central bank's preferred inflation gauge due out on Friday.
America's Commerce Department was expected to report that the annual rate of increase in the price deflator for personal consumption expenditures dipped from 5.0% for December to 4.9% in January.
At the core level, PCE price gains were seen slowing from 4.4% to 4.3%.
On the same day, the University of Michigan was scheduled to publish the results of its consumer confidence survey for February, including the closely followed gauges of inflation expectations contained in the same.
Ahead of those two reports, on Tuesday, S&P Global would release its factory and services sector Purchasing Managers' Indices for the US, euro area, and UK referencing the month of February.
It was anticipated that all three sets of PMIs would show an improvement in activity, especially those for the euro area.
Readings for consumer confidence in Germany and the UK were also expected on Friday, alongside consumer price data for January in Japan.
Investors would also be keeping an eye out for the minutes of the Federal Reserve's 31 January-1 February policy meeting, on Wednesday.
Earlier on Wednesday, Germany's prestigious IFO institute would publish its business confidence index for February.
Further afield, in Asia, rate-setters in New Zealand and South Korea were due to make policy announcements on Wednesday and Thursday, respectively.
