Irish authorities on Thursday activated their protocol against Ebola at Dublin airport after a passenger claimed he was infected with the tropical virus.

The man was traveling on Aer Lingus flight 433 from Milan, according to Irish broadcaster RTE.

A spokesman from the Irish police (Garda Siochana) explained to RTE that the passengers had been temporarily retained on board, towards 13:00, to allow the incident to be “fully investigated”, but have since disembarked. He made no reference to the virus or to the cause of the incident, although he did describe it as “a minor security incident”.
