Barcelona police shoot at lorry driver after motorway charge

Urban police in Barcelona arrested a man on Tuesday after he was shot by security forces while driving down the wrong side of a motorway with a lorry filled with stolen gas canisters.

The truck was travelling at a high speed when it entered a junction from the opposite direction near one of the Spanish city's main ring roads.

According to the Mossos police force in the Catalan capital, the lorry was stolen near the city's main port and proceeded to smash into several cars on its way to the Ronda Litoral road.

La Vanguardia newspaper has reported that the man arrested was a Swedish citizen who may have been under the influence of drugs.

It is not yet clear whether the incident is being treated as an incident of terrorism.
