Six Egyptian policemen were killed in Cairo on Friday after a bombing at a police checkpoint in the capital, state media reported.

The state-run MENA news agency said the attack occurred on a road leading to the Giza pyramids. Three policemen were also injured in the explosion, which has been claimed by the terrorist Hasm Movement.

The bombing destroyed several cars, near a mosque on a wide avenue often used by tour buses to travel to the famous pyramids.

"We heard the blast and rushed to the scene and found police vehicles damaged," said witness Abdel Hamid Abdulla.

"We saw some police were injured, and some of their legs had been cut off," he said.
