Time magazine’s annual selection of the 100 most influential people on the planet includes Donald Trump, London Mayor Sadiq Khan, and entrepreneurs like Elon Musk and Jeff Bezos.

Selected by Ted Cruz, it isn’t a surprise that the US President makes it as one of the most influential people on the planet. The Republican Texas Senator said: “President Trump is a flash-bang grenade thrown into Washington by the forgotten men and women of America.

“President Trump is doing what he was elected to do: disrupt the status quo. That scares the heck out of those who have controlled Washington for decades, but for millions of Americans, their confusion is great fun to watch.”

Another world leader selected was China's Xi Jinping. Political scientist Ian Bremmer said about the president: “At a time when Western leaders are struggling to explain what future they see for their people, Xi heralded a “new era” for China, one that brings his country to the global centre stage.

“Dysfunction in Washington has allowed Xi to offer his country as a leader on trade and the fight to contain climate change. Beyond the standoff with Donald Trump on trade, Xi has helped China deliver a potent economic and technological challenge to the US-led order”.

"Suppose that in the year 3000, TIME publishes the 100 most influential people of the millennium. Who from our generation would make the list? Elon Musk has a shot."

London Mayor Sadiq Khan also features on the list. Picked by former New York Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg he has been named the voice of reason on Brexit.

“He has also been a voice of reason on Brexit, recognizing that the U.K. will be stronger by maintaining a close relationship with Europe. And at a time of increasingly divisive political rhetoric, he has been an important voice for tolerance and unity. When President Trump retweeted videos from a British anti-Muslim group, Sadiq rightfully denounced it,” said Bloomberg.

Amazon chief executive Jeff Bezos also makes it on the list: “For most of us, transforming the retail industry would be a pretty satisfying accomplishment. But Jeff’s relentless attention to consumers is not defined by any boundaries.

“As Amazon has grown and Jeff has set his sights on media, entertainment, fresh produce, space travel and recently (in a joint effort with us) health care, among other areas, he has never lost sight of the millions of people he is serving. And that is how you win in American business and raise the standards of what customers come to expect.”, said Jamie Dimon, CEO of JP Morgan.

Elon Musk also features on Times 100. He was picked by Russian entrepreneur Yuri Milner who said “Suppose that in the year 3000, TIME publishes the 100 most influential people of the millennium. Who from our generation would make the list? Elon Musk has a shot.

“Because he is one of the few people who is not only thinking about the long-term survival of our civilization but also doing something about it: building the conditions for a viable colony on Mars.”
