Firefighter dies after Emirates plane crash-lands at Dubai Airport

No casualties confirmed in the crash at the international terminal

An Emirates airline flight coming from India crash-landed at Dubai International Airport on Wednesday, with one firefighter being killed trying to fight a subsequent blaze after all passengers and crew had escaped safely.

Pictures purportedly showing the incident posted on social media show thick black smoke rising from the top of a burning Boeing 777 plane.

The Dubai government media office said all passengers were evacuated safely, but it was later confirmed that a firefighter died from injuries sustained after the airplane exploded into flames.

Emirates is the world’s biggest carrier by international traffic. The airport has been shut after the incident, Sky News Arabia reported.

The aircraft was reportedly flying from the Indian city of Trivandrum to Dubai. Take offs and landings have been suspended at the airport until further notice.
