Lloyd's of London filed a countersuit to Kanye West's claim that the bank and its insurance syndicates owed him $10m after the producer-turned-MC-turned-designer cancelled his Saint Pablo tour in November 2016 with more than 20 shows left to perform.

Filed at a federal court in Los Angeles on Tuesday, Lloyds said in the counterclaim that Very Good Touring Inc, Kanye's management and touring company, had not cooperated with the insurance group's investigation into the claim.

It said its policies did not cover any losses as a result of "the possession or use of illegal drugs, the impact of prescription drugs not used as prescribed, or the use of alcohol" either directly or indirectly.

The 40-year-old Chicagoan cited a "serious, debilitating medical condition," as the reason for cancelling a string of shows, on stage political 'rants' and abridged performances.

Lloyd's stated that it found "substantial irregularities in Mr West's medical history," while Kanye claimed that the bank and its syndicates were denying coverage of the claim "on the unsupportable contention that use of marijuana" had caused his condition.

Yeezy's lawyer, Howard King, said on Wednesday that Lloyd's refused to "honour a legitimate claim but can't find a factual basis to deny a claim”.

Lloyd's are said to be seeking a jury trial on the matter.
