Almost 40% of millennials in London have said that financial concerns are their most pressing issue, according to a new survey from carmaker BMW.

Money took the top spot for young Londoners ahead of other issues such as relationships and wider world factors.

The survey was carried out by BMW’s car-sharing service DriveNow, and also found that on average men in London spend more on clothes than their female counterparts.

Male millennials in the capital spend £107.63 per month in fashion outlets, while women are well below that on £66.35.

The so-called ‘sharing economy’ is becoming an increasingly viable option for many young adults, with the survey showing apps such as AirBnB and Uber are used by as much as 73% of those in the capital, with 69% of those citing affordability as the reason for using the apps.

DriveNow UK managing director James Taylor said the company was aiming to build its business on the increase in use of such services.

"Millennials are a large part of our user base and it's clear that affordability and value for money are huge priorities for this generation," Taylor said.

The research also found that London millennials are spending a huge amount of time on the sofa; surfing the internet, browsing social media and watching series top the list of leisure activities among the age group. Only 19% said they practiced sport in any way.
