Four people died and five were left injured as a small plane on Thursday crashed into an airport building in Wichita, Kansas.

More than 100 people were inside the building when the crash happened and the Wichita Fire Department confirmed the four victims and the five injured people were among them, while five others remained unaccounted for.

Federal Aviation Administration spokesman Tony Molinaro said the plane reportedly hit the north building of FlightSafety International Cessna pilot's centre soon after reporting losing engine power just after takeoff around 9:50 a.m. local time.

The pilot was the only person on board the 10-seated Beechcraft.
