Jeremy Hunt appointed as UK finance minister after Kwarteng sacked
Updated : 14:14
Former health and foreign secretary Jeremy Hunt has been appointed the UK's fourth finance minister this year after the sacking of Kwasi Kwarteng this afternoon by Prime Minister Liz Truss, Downing Street said.
Hunt ran for the Tory leadership this summer, but after being eliminated in preliminary rounds he threw his support behind the bid of Rishi Sunak, another former finance minister, whose resignation led to the ultimate demise of Boris Johnston's scandal-ridden premiership.
