Scots do not think there should be a second referendum on independence in the wake of the UK's decision to leave the European Union, according to a Survation poll published for the Daily Record newspaper.

The poll of 1,002 people found that 44.7% said there should not be a second vote, while 41.9% thought it should take place. This translated to a 52/48% split against a referendum.

However, when asked how they would vote if one was held now, 47% said they would be in favour of independence and 41% against which would produce a 54% 'yes' vote nationally.

In September 2014 Scotland rejected independence by 55% to 45%.

Scotland First Minister Nicola Sturgeon last week a second referendum was “highly likely” after a majority of Scots voted in favour of remaining within the EU.
