Amazon to expand garage delivery service
Amazon announced on Tuesday that it would be expanding its service that lets delivery workers drop off groceries inside customers’ garages.
The offering is part of Amazon Key, an array of services that allow deliveries in garages, homes, cars and businesses.
In-home deliveries require a smart lock and a camera, while in-garage deliveries require a smart garage door opener.
The company said that the service is now available for all Prime members where grocery delivery is available (over 5,000 cities across the US).
Until now, some Prime members could get Amazon Fresh orders and Whole Foods deliveries dropped off in their garage, but only if they lived in Chicago, Dallas, Los Angeles, San Francisco or Seattle.
Although the services prevent groceries and packages from being affected by weather or theft, it has also raised concerns about giving strangers access to homes and garages.
