Apple hit by iPhone leak one day before major launch

US tech giant Apple has been hit by a major leak of its latest iPhone just a day before the latest version of the iconic smartphone is due to be officially released.
Apple has been traditionally secretive about its launch events, but two news sites were given access to a new version of the iOS operating system, as well as apparent details of the iPhone 8.
The leaks suggested the latest version of the device would be called iPhone X and might even include wireless charging.
Tim Cook was expected to unveil the new device at an event at the company’s headquarters on Tuesday morning, with major innovations expected as the iPhone marked ten years since its first release.

According to tech news site 9to5Mac, the iPhone 8 and 8 Plus were on track to be released as expected, but alongside the new iPhone X, which it was believed would be the first model of the device which not to incorporate a home button.
Estimates suggested the iPhone X might be available for customers to take home for as much as $1,000.
The release was a particularly significant one for the San Cupertino-based giant, which had seen its first yearly decline in sales of its flagship phone since its conception in 2007.
Apple was also expected to announce details of a new version of its Apple Watch, as well as a 4K Apple TV.
The company’s share price was down 1.63% on Monday ahead of the opening bell on Wall Street, having risen by over 50% in the last 12 months.
