Apple pulls out from building its own car as Project Titan stumbles

US technology giant Apple appears to be cooling down its attempts to build its own car, having massively scaled back its auto operations in recent months, according to Bloomberg.
Tim Cook and his company appeared to be heading full throttle into a challenge to Detroit's Big Three of car-makers - Ford, Fiat Chrysler and General Motors.
However, hundreds of members of the previously 1,000-strong workforce have been reassigned, released or resigned in the last few months.
Project Titan, as its referred to internally, has had a change in its management, which according to Bloomberg's sources is keen to refocus efforts towards development autonomous driving software, rather than creating its own vehicle.
Other established tech firms, such as Google, have attempted to make the move from software bases to vehicles but it has proved particularly elusive thus far.
The company set up Titan in 2014 in an attempt to match its success in the mobile industry with the iPhone.
Bloomberg reported that problems arose in the leadership of the project, originating from disagreements about the direction of the undertaking. Earlier this year, the former head of the operation Steve Zadesky quit the project.
Zadesky's departure was followed by a further exodus of software engineers, hardware engineers and managers, and now it looks as if Apple's plans to take the motor industry by storm are on the backburner for the foreseeable future.
