The UK’s Competition and Markets Authority said on Wednesday that it was launching an investigation into Microsoft’s $69bn acquisition of Activision Blizzard.

The competition watchdog said it will consider whether the deal could harm competition and lead to higher prices, lower quality or reduced choice for consumers.

The CMA invited comments on the deal from any interested party by 20 July. It has until 1 September to announce whether it will refer the merger for a Phase 2 investigation.

Microsoft announced in January that it had agreed to buy 'Call of Duty' and 'Candy Crush' maker Activision for $95 per share in cash.
