The Competition and Markets Authority will investigate Google’s $2.6bn takeover of cloud analytics company Looker Data Sciences.

The competition watchdog said on Tuesday that it will look into whether the deal would result in a "lessening of competition" in the market.

The CMA is inviting comment from any interested party and will decide by 13 February whether to refer the acquisition to a more in-depth probe.

Google announced in June that it had agreed to buy Looker in an all-cash transaction.
