Fiat Chrysler Automobiles production in Canada remains uninterrupted as the automaker reached an agreement with workers union Unifor late on Monday night.

Several days of intense bargaining between the two sides concluded with a commitment from the US car giant to invest in an assembly plant in Brampton, Ontario.

The news follows on from an agreement last month between Unifor and another of the "Big Three" of US car makers, General Motors.

The deal reached on September 19 allowed for GM to invest $420.84m in the local Canadian plants, in which the company employs more than 4,000 workers.

At a press conference in Toronto, Unifor president Jerry Dias said that the new deal with Fiat would see a renovation for a paint shop in the area.

"We were really deeply concerned about the fact that the paint shop at Brampton. It is over 30 years old," Dias said at the press conference. "Now, they are going to gut the existing paint shop and refurbish it."

The deal is due to be voted on by members of the union next week.
