United States car-maker Fiat Chrysler will be investigated by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration after complaints were made about their new Ram pickup trucks and SUVs.

The complaints emanate from customers reporting that the vehicles are rolling away after being parked, and at least 1m vehicles will be subject to investigation.

Fiat Chrysler has said that it is fully cooperating with the investigation, with the governmental body having reported at least 25 crashes from owners of the trucks, warning drivers to exercise caution when operating the vehicles.

Earlier this year the company recalled over 1m cars and SUVs due to a similar problem.

The most high-profile incident involving such vehicles was the death of former Star Trek actor Anton Yelchin, who was killed after his truck rolled backwards into a wall at his home in Los Angeles. His Jeep was among the vehicles recalled in April because of complaints from drivers.

The NHTSA said it would be launching a "preliminary evaluation" in light of the latest complaints about the Detroit company's vehicles.
