Bomb threat delays FIFA congress

A bomb threat delayed on Friday FIFA'S congress in Zurich to elect a new president.

All those attending the ceremony were evacuated while several teams of police were dispatched to search the facilities for explosives.

"I can confirm that there has been a bomb threat against the FIFA Congress. Agents have been sent”, a spokesman for the Police of Zurich said, as reported by the Spanish news agency Europa Press.

The bomb threat was denied later, and the Congress will be resumed later in the evening.

This threat came the same week the organisation was hit by a corruption scandal that led to the arrest of seven of its top officials and the indictment of various more.

Regarding the voting in order to chose the next FIFA president, each football confederation has taken a decision ahead of the vote that will confront Joseph Blatter, current council president, with Jordan's Prince Ali Bin Al-Hussein, who will try to dethrone him.

The European football governing body UEFA pointed out it will support Al-Hussein's candidature, while Asian and African football confederations reaffirmed their support for Blatter.
