US carmaker Ford saw a significant increase in its sales in China in August compared with the same period last year, with a 22% rise reported by the company and its local partners.

For the first eight months of 2016, Ford, Changan Ford and Jiangling Motor Corp. also posted an 8% rise than the first months of 2015, totalling almost 750,000.

Changan Ford posted particularly impressive August sales on its vehicles, with a 26% sales gain during the month.

"We continue to build momentum in China on the strength of the most comprehensive and exciting Ford lineup we have ever offered Chinese customers,” said Peter Fleet, Ford Asia Pacific vice president of marketing, sales and service.

Strong demand for the Edge SUV, Focus and Escort models led the strong results.
