Twitter chief executive Jack Dorsey has confirmed a number of high-profile executives have left the company, after rumours of two departures on Sunday afternoon.

Media head Katie Jacobs Stanton and product head Kevin Weil were understood to be leaving the social media giant, tech news website Re/code said on Sunday.

Following the reports, Dorsey made a statement on Twitter to say he had hoped to talk to his employees about the departures before telling the public.

Dorsey, who was re-appointed CEO last October, also confirmed senior vice president of engineering Alex Roetter and vice-president of human resources Brian “Skip” Schipper were also leaving the group.

“All four will be taking some well-deserved time off,” he said.

“I'm personally grateful to each of them for everything they've contributed to Twitter and our purpose in the world. They are phenomenal people!”

Chief operating officer Adam Bain will be taking on responsibility for the revenue-related product teams, the media team, and the HR team on an interim basis.

Chief technology officer CTO Adam Messinger will be taking over all of engineering and consumer product, design and research, user services, and Fabric into one group.

“I will be partnering with him day and night to make sure we're building the right experiences,” Dorsey said.

The departures come three months after Twitter announced plans to cut almost 8% of its global workforce through a restructuring plan.

It said it would cut up to 336 employees, adding the redundancies are expected to translate into cash expenditures, mainly due to severance packages, of between $10m to $20m.
