Malaysian Airlines flight MH370 debris confirmed in Tanzania

Debris discovered off the coast of Tanzania in June has been confirmed as emanating from the missing Malaysia Airlines flight MH370.

The discovery of the outboard flap was made on the island of Pemba, and will be subject to further examination in order to provide some insight into what happened to the aircraft and the 239 passengers and crew on board.

Over two years ago, the Boeing 777 mysteriously vanished as it headed towards Beijing from Kuala Lumpur, and little evidence of it has been found since.

Malaysian transport minister Liow Tiong Lai confirmed the news on Thursday.

"Further examination of the debris will continue, in hopes that further evidence may be uncovered which may provide new insight into the circumstances surrounding flight MH370," he said.

Some debris that is thought have belonged to the aircraft has turned up in areas such as Mozambique, Mauritius and French island Reunion.
