Microsoft unveils new Xbox and kicks off console war with Sony
Microsoft released the design for the new Xbox Series X on Thursday and kicked off what will surely be a console war with Sony throughout 2020 for next-generation gaming hardware.
The Xbox Series X was revealed at the company’s press conference for industry awards ceremony The Game Awards.
Microsoft has been working on Xbox Series X under the name Project Scarlett and the announcement follows confirmation from Sony that it’s choosing PlayStation 5 for the name of its next console.
Microsoft Head of Xbox Phil Spencer said in a blog post that this would be the firm’s “fastest, most powerful console ever,” capable of showing images at up to a huge 120 frames per second and coming with 8K video capability. The device will also feature improved graphics and a solid state drive which Spencer claimed will “virtually eliminate load times.”
The company hasn’t disclosed a price for the new device, an important detail gamers will no doubt be anxious to learn. Microsoft said the Xbox Series X will be available to buy during next year's holidays.
The announcement also came after Sony revealed a brand new game for its Playstation 5 called Godfall. The game will be available at the same time as the new console, by the end of 2020.
