Over 77,000 cars hit by VW emissions scandal in Australia

Volkswagen has revealed 77,149 vehicles in Australia have been fitted with emissions test cheat software.
It’s the latest in a line of announcements about exactly how many vehicles in each country are affected.
There are 54,745 VW passenger cars involved, while 17,256 commercial vehicles also need to be fixed along with 5,148 Skoda vehicles.
Volkswagen Group Australia managing director John White said the company is taking the issue very seriously and still gathering all the facts from the German car maker’s head office.
“We understand the disappointment and frustration felt by our customers, dealers and partners in Australia and apologise for any inconvenience this may cause.
“We are doing everything possible to fix the problem and will be making further announcements in the near future.”
About 11m diesel engine vehicles globally are fitted with the software, which reduces carbon emissions from the vehicles when under test conditions to within standards.
Volkswagen revealed in September that of those 11m vehicles, over 1.1m are in the UK.
