Pokemon Go launches in the UK on Android and iOS

Hugely popular smartphone game has become a worldwide craze following its release

Pokemon Go has launched in the UK after intial technical problems, with the hugely popular app now available to download on Apples's iOS and Android software systems.

The app has been an international sensation since its debut a week ago, with millions of users doing battle on the streets with their smartphones. Using location technology, users find rivals on the streets of their city or town and engage each other through their mobiles.

Reports have said that the brand new game has surpassed Twitter in terms of daily users, an incredible feat considering its short life. It now also has Google Maps and Snapchat in its sights.

It topped the app store download chart on both iPhone's App Store and Google Play just days after its initial release in the US, Australia and New Zealand.

The share price of creators Nintendo has risen 50% since Pokemon Go's release. Nintendo owns a third of Pokémon Company, which along with Google spin-off Niantic Labs, makes Pokémon Go, a unique augmented reality (AU) app that involves users roaming the real world in order to hunt and find virtual Pokémon monsters using their phone's GPS mapping.

The game can be downloaded for free, but extras such as Pokécoins, which can be used to whichcan be spent on incense to attracts the monsters to your location, or even a Lucky Egg, which earns you double experience points (XP) for 30 minutes.

Pokémon Go is the first Nintendo-exclusive game that the Japanese giant has granted a major mobile release, and industry specialists and financial analysts feel the success of this app could augur well for the company’s future. The app has yet to be made available in huge gaming markets in China, Japan, and much of Europe, so the Tokyo-based company could stand to make even bigger profits from its release in those areas in the coming days and weeks,
