Samsung postponed the launch of its folding smartphone the Samsung Galaxy Fold after early reviewers reported a series of faults with the screens.

The company said it would now "fully evaluate the feedback and run further internal tests" before launching the new model, which sported an estimated price tag of $1,800. A new launch date would be announced in the coming weeks.

In April, several early reviewers found the display on the Galaxy Fold broke after just a few days.

Samsung said it suspected the damages reported by some of the reviewers were caused by "impact on the top and bottom exposed areas of the hinge”.

It also found "substances" inside one of the review devices that may have affected its performance.

Samsung’s latest model was set to hit stores in the US on 26 of April and the UK on 3 May.

Analysts said on Tuesday that the delay would hurt the brand in the short-term but that the industry was still betting on the South Korean manufacturer to produce a winning model.

Samsung shares closed down by 0.33% in Asian trading whereas Seoul's benchmark equity index, the Kospi, finished the session little changed.
