Samsung suffers further blow as exploding washing machines recalled

South Korean electronics firm Samsung has been hit with another safety recall as 2.8 million of its washing machines are being brought back in the US after several reports of the tops detaching during use.
The US Consumer Product Safety Commission has recalled the machines after Samsung received over 700 reports of incidents and nine injuries caused by the exploding part.
The announcement follows a disastrous episode for the company after its Galaxy Note 7 had to be discontinued following complaints that batteries from the device were catching fire or exploding.
Two-and-a-half million Note 7s were recalled even before the company decided to take them off the market, and the latest call represents a further blow for the under-pressure Samsung.
The problem with the washing machines arises from consumers using high-speed spin cycles, according to the report.
"Our priority is to reduce any safety risks in the home and to provide our customers with easy and simple choices in response to the recall," Samsung's general manager of Home Appliances in the USA John Herrington said.
"We are moving quickly and in partnership with the CPSC to ensure consumers know the options available to them and that any disruption in the home is minimised."
Samsung now has an even bigger fight on its hands to maintain consumer trust in its brand, particularly with regards to an already-saturated smartphone market.
The indecisive manner in which the firm dealt with the Note 7 debacle did not help Samsung, and it is probable that they will seek a swift and thorough resolution to the current issue.
