Tesla delivers 201,250 cars in Q2, falls short of expectations

Tesla reported on Friday that it delivered 201,250 vehicles during the second-quarter, falling short of analysts' estimates.

Analysts from FactSet as of 1 July, were expecting Tesla to deliver around 207,000 cars during this period.

Nevertheless, it was the first time ever that the manufacturer had delivered more than 200,000 vehicles in a single quarter.

The carmaker produced 206,421 vehicles in total, including 204,081 of its Model 3 and Y, which were its most affordable mid-range cars. It also produced 2,340 Model S and X vehicles, the company said.

Tesla also launched its Model S Plaid, a high-performance version of its Model S in June, starting at $129,990.

Its previous record for deliveries was hit in the first quarter of 2021, when Tesla delivered 184,800 and produced 180,338 cars.

The numbers eased some worries among industry watchers after Chief Executive Officer Elon Musk recently warned about a shortage of chips and raw materials affecting production.
