Twitter goes offline for over two hours

Millions of Twitter users were unable to use the social media service on Tuesday after an outage which appeared to affect users around the world.

The social network began to have issues at around 0820 GMT, and posted an update at 0840 GMT acknowledging the issue.

“Some users are currently experiencing problems accessing Twitter,” a note on its status page said.

“We are aware of the issue and are working towards a resolution.”

Over two hours later, the social network was back online.
