UK's Virgin group could be looking to acquire mobile telecommunications operator Yoigo from Sweden's TeliaSonera, Spanish economic daily El Economista reported on Friday citing people close to the operation.

The report pointed out that Richard Branson's Virgin was considering ways of entering into the Spanish market, and had already held talks with the company's owners.

Although the financial terms of the potential purchase were not disclosed, if completed the transaction would have a profound impact on the Spanish telecommunications market.

Vodafone and Orange showed their interest in Yoigo last year, before Vodafone acquired Ono and Orange put in a takeover bid for Jazztel.
