Beleaguered car maker Volkswagen will reportedly have to recall 2.46m cars that were fitted with illegal emission control software in Germany.
According to Germany daily Die Welt, 1.54m German VW-branded cars needed to be fixed, along with 531,813 Audis, 286,970 Skodas and 104,197 Seats.
Earlier in the month, VW said it plans to cap spending next year at around €12bn as it looks to save costs following the scandal.
The figure is around €1bn less than the budget for the previous year. Before the emissions scandal hit, Volkswagen had said it intended to spend around €17bn a year through to 2019 on new vehicles and technology.
The car maker admitted in September that it has used emissions-cheating software in up to 11m diesel vehicles worldwide.
