Volkswagen is starting to lose market share in the EU following the diesel emissions scandal.

The European Automobile Manufacturers’ Association (ACEA) released its monthly passenger car registrations statistics on Friday.

It showed 1.35m new passenger cars were registered in September, a 9.8% increase on the same month last year.

While VW Group registrations were up to 315,905 for the month from 291,424 in 2014, the results showed the troubled car-maker’s market share dropped from 23.6% to 23.3%.

Volkswagen’s passenger cars dropped from a market share of 11.6% to 11.2%.

News of the emissions scandal first broke on 18 September, with the company admitting two days later that software was manipulated.
