Presumptive Democratic party presidential hopeful, Joe Biden, widened his lead over rival Donald Trump to 13 points, his biggest advantage thus far in 2020, according to a poll published on Wednesday.

A 10-16 June poll conducted by Reuters/Ipsos showed that 48% of Democrats would back Biden if he were finally chosen as that party's candidate, against 35% for his Republican contender.

The poll was conducted among 4,426 adults, a majority of which, some 2,047, were Democrats and 1,593 were Republicans.

Two other polls from CNBC and Economist/YouGov, which were also released on Wednesday, showed Biden holding a 10 and 9 point lead over Trump, respectively.

According to the Reuters/Ipsos poll, 57% of Americans disapproved of his performance in office and 38% supported him, with the latter marking his lowest approval rating since November.

In particular, the pollster highlighted the 13 percentage point erosion in the incumbent's net approval rating since March, which it said appeared to show that Trump's own base of support was eroding.

The majority of Americans, some 55%, also disapproved of how he had handled the coronavirus pandemic, whilst 40% gave him a thumbs-up.

That was the lowest approval rating for him since Reuters/Ipsos began tracking responses to that question in March.

Notably, nearly two-thirds of respondents said that they sympathised with protesters.

Trump did however retain his lead when it came to the economy, with 43% of those canvassed saying he would do better in managing it, versus 38% who said the same of Biden.
