Carlos Slim, the Mexican businessman who is one of the world's richest men, has said that he would be more worried about a Donald Trump presidency if he was a US citizen.

During an interview with Bloomberg TV, Slim spoke about the impact that president-elect Trump's policies will have on the economies of the two countries.

Slim built his fortune through telecommunications companies, real estate, healthcare and investments, and accounts for around 40% of the listings on the Mexican Stock exchange. He held the title of Forbes' world's richest man between 2010 and 2013.

"I would be more worried if I were an American," Slim told Bloomberg when asked his response to Trump's win. "If he's going to close the economy, it's bad. He has the risk of losing the international leadership of the United States."

The billionaire added that if Trump was to renegotiate the NAFTA trade deal as he promised throughout his campaign, it would not be as negative as many are suggesting.

"I don't think that renegotiating something that has twenty years is a bad issue. The renegotiation can be for the best of both, a win-win issue," Slim said.

The president-elect feels that the US are not getting a fair deal with the current agreement, which currently allows for few restrictions on the country's trade with the likes of Mexico and Canada.
