Chile cancels APEC summit
Chilean authorities took the unprecedented step on Wednesday of cancelling the upcoming summit of the Asia Pacific Economic Forum in Santiago, Chile.
The summit had been scheduled to take place between 16-17 November.
A key face-to-face meeting between the leaders of the US and China, Donald Trump and Xi Jinping, to discuss a potential preliminary trade deal, had been slated to take place on the sidelines.
The decision appeared to be linked to the recent violent protests in the country over inequality which had so far resulted in 18 deaths and to the arrest of 7,000 people.
