China leading indicators rise in September

A leading economic index for China surged in September, data released on Friday showed.
The latest survey from the Conference Board showed its index rose 1.6% month-on-month in September compared with a 1% gain in August and a 0.9% climb in July.
However, the coincident index slid 1.2% after rising 0.7% in August and 1% in July.
"China's economic situation, as measured by the coincident index, slowed substantially in September, due to very weak consumer demand and a struggling industrial sector," said Andrew Polk, resident economist at the Conference Board China Center in Beijing.
